Discover Fårö, a modular outdoor sofa designed by Studio Joa Herrenknecht. Inspired by the distinctive stone formations of the Swedish island of Fårö, the design features gently rounded cushions and subtle oval details, reflecting the island’s quiet, natural beauty. Crafted with a powder-coated aluminium frame and Sunbrella upholstery, Fårö is designed for lasting comfort and life outdoors.
The German designer Joa Herrenknecht designs timeless objects to be enjoyed for a lifetime.
Her work is characterized by reduction — clean, minimal lines, evocative colors and undertones paired with surprising details and a personal twist. She breaks down products’ essence and rethinks them to their core. Functionality and beauty thus intertwine.
Guided by the vision of bringing a sense of lightness into people’s homes, Herrenknecht founded her eponymous design studio ‘Studio Joa Herrenknecht’ 2012 in Berlin, Germany. She works mainly as an industrial designer creating product series for brands, but also consults companies as a product designer. Her multidisciplinary studio’s portfolio spans furniture, accessories, lamps, textiles and interiors and her diverse clientele include international furniture brands like DWR, Bolia, Metallbude and others. Joa is a frequent juror at international Design Awards, like

the prestigious iF Design Award or the German Design Award. Along her work as a designer, she has founded a female design collective called Matter of Course, 2021 in Berlin, focussing on fostering female designers in Germany. During Covid she moved to Canada, while keeping her studio in Germany, she now lives and works between both cities: Toronto and Berlin, combining both worlds.
