Artilleriet, one of Sweden’s most influential design stores and a proud Skargaarden retailer, shares their thoughts on personal interiors, timeless outdoor living, and why Skargaarden fits naturally into their philosophy. From the iconic Kryss safari chair to the growing trend of complete outdoor environments, discover what inspires them and how they curate design with soul.
We spoke with Christian Duivenvoorden, one of the owners of Artilleriet, about their design philosophy, what inspires them, and why Skargaarden has become a natural part of their curated collection.
Artilleriet is well known for its unique curation. How would you describe yourselves and the clientele you attract and what do you think makes you one of Sweden’s most influential stores?
We see Artilleriet as a place where we want to inspire people to create interiors that feel genuinely personal and alive. Our customers are not looking for the predictable; instead, they share our longing for the unique and authentic. We believe our success comes from staying true to a clear vision, seeing the home as something deeply personal and letting our selection reflect that.
How do you see Skargaarden’s design fitting into Artilleriet’s philosophy?
Skargaarden has a simple and natural expression, something we feel works especially well in outdoor settings. The furniture carries an international tone while still being distinctly Scandinavian. With a strong focus on quality and pieces truly made to withstand the outdoors, they become a natural choice for us when designing exterior spaces.
Is there a specific product from Skargaarden that has become a favorite for you, and why?
We have always had a particular fondness for Björn Hultén’s furniture for Skargaarden. In our view, Kryss is the ultimate safari chair. There are many variations of this type, but Kryss is the one that best combines comfort, form, and durability. Saltholm has also become a favorite, a distinct design that radiates understated luxury and works beautifully in any outdoor setting.
What trends do you see in outdoor design right now?
We see many of our clients investing in complete outdoor environments, with the pool area often becoming the natural centerpiece. Around this, different zones are created for dining, lounging, and relaxation, all with the same care and attention to detail as the interior. The outdoor space is increasingly viewed as an extension of the home, just as important for everyday life as it is for entertaining.
What inspires you right now, and how is that reflected in your unique selection of design?
We are deeply inspired by true craftsmanship, by seeing the knowledge and incredible work that goes into creating a piece of high-quality furniture. When experience and tradition are passed down through generations, products are created with an inherent soul, something not always easy to explain but undeniably felt when you encounter them. It is precisely that feeling we look for when selecting products for our interiors and assortment.
